Phishing

Jojie. Phishing

Phishing is when sneaky online tricksters pretend to be trustworthy people or companies. They send fake messages or emails to get important info like passwords or bank details. They use lies and pretend to be someone you trust to get what they want.

Scammers will make fake websites that seem just like the real ones from banks or companies, but they have a small change in the web address. If you type in your info, PINs, or OTPs on these fake sites, they might take your money and information.

Telltale signs of Phishing

Suspicious Email

Look out for emails threatening account closure, delivery issues and legal issues. Check the sender's email address carefully. Look for misspellings, typos, or unusual domain extensions like ".xyz" or ".biz".

Nameless Deception

Your name isn't being mentioned or mentioned incorrectly.

Unsolicited Text Messages

Scammers send unsolicited texts pretending to be from familiar companies or banks. They often create a sense of urgency, threatening an account closure or offering tempting deals to get you to click links or share personal info. Once you engage, they might try to steal your details or infect your device with malware.

Suspicious Links

Be cautious of links that appear strange or direct you to unknown websites; before clicking, hover over them to view the real URL.

What to do when you encounter Phishing

Think twice before clicking

Refrain from clicking on suspicious links or downloading attachments from unknown sources.

Install Trusted software

Install and regularly update antivirus and anti-malware software on your devices to help prevent phishing attacks.

Verify Sources

Confirm the legitimacy of requests by contacting companies directly through official channels.

Be more vigilant

Avoid sharing personal information, banking or credit card details unless verified, and refrain from giving out OTPs (One-Time Passwords) to anyone.

2FA for an extra layer of security

Enable two-factor authentication whenever possible to enhance security measures.
